AnnouncementAny motorist that believes that they have suffered damage to their vehicle due to a road issue, needs to call our office as soon as possible after the incident to file a report. In addition, an official police report is required to verify said damage, which will aid our investigation into what road issues lead to the vehicle damage. Without those two criteria being met, such a claim will be denied by this office.

About the Highway DistrictThe Campton Township Highway District's responsibilities continue to grow as our Township develops. We are currently responsible for over 31 miles of roadway. It is the largest roadway system out of the 16 townships in Kane County. We continue to add roadways as new subdivisions are developed. A Township, as governed by Illinois Law, is 6 miles by 6 miles (36 square miles) in size. When Campton was first settled, the roads carved through the wilderness were the lifeblood of commerce and communication. These rough-hewn, rural roads were vital to both Campton and the State of Illinois. The Township Highway Districts in Illinois were created to permanently oversee them. By state law, the Campton Township Highway District is responsible for the road and the right of way along the road. The total width varies from road to road and usually ranges up to 66 feet and may range up to 100 feet in certain places such as a cul de sac or a tee at the end of a road. Your tax dollars are spent on a variety of projects including snow removal. Every winter the highway district clears the snow and ice from township roads via plowing and salting. In some instances excess snow may need to be hauled away. The Highway District is ready to respond to any road situation that arises. The Highway District installs and maintains many types of signs on township roads: stop signs, speed signs, street signs, etc. If a sign is missing, damaged, or unreadable, please contact us to report the location and type of sign. The Highway District is responsible for drainage of roadways and redirecting water away from the shoulder of the roadway. If you believe that you have a problem with your culvert, contact us and we will determine the best course of action in solving your drainage problems. The Highway District removes dead animals from the roadway, the district will remove dead and dying trees that are a safety hazard from the ditches within our right of way that are native and have grown naturally along our main roadways and are not part of a homes landscaping design or been planted by a current or previous homeowner or resident, the district mows the ditches along the township main roads, and we also will trim trees along the roads when their overgrowth interferes with passing vehicles and hinders visibility at intersections or around signs. The Highway District repairs potholes with cold-patch asphalt material throughout the year and performs many road maintenance projects when spring finally arrives. These projects include durapatching, crack sealing, and hot mix asphalt repairs as well as road surface repaving overlays. Repaving our roads is a very costly operation and is performed as funding allows. An outside, independent engineering firm has completed an evaluation of all the roads to determine which roads are in the worst condition. We then plan our paving projects to resurface the roads according to the firm’s completed study to fairly address the repaving concerns for each road and subdivision. We also inspect and evaluate the roads in March of every year, after winter has ended, and prepare a list of any damage or repairs to the roads needing any of the other maintenance projects listed above. During the warmer months we then conduct our repaving and road repair projects. In addition, stone and shoulder gravel is added along road edges as necessary. The Highway District is responsible for road striping. Road striping includes crosswalks, stop lines, center lines, and the white fog lines along the edge of the road. The road crew and office staff members are ready to solve problems with our roadways. If you observe a problem or have any questions, please contact the Highway District office.
